Slaaneshi Chariots

Sometimes winning an eBay auction for random assorted bits, is all the motivation you need.

Snow Shovels and Terrain

While the North East of the USA is buried under several feet of blowing snow, I am hunkered down in my basement, building terrain and gluing gravel to my hands.

Metal Bloodcrushers and Conversions: How to spend two weeks on eight models.

With last summer's release of the plastic Bloodcrusher kit, I found several weeks of my work to be invalidated.  Months before the second wave of Chaos Daemons, I spent quite a while repositioning all eight of my own metal Bloodcrushers.  While I am happy with my work, I don't think I would have made this effort had I known plastic models were just around the corner...

Pre-2nd Wave Release "The Changeling"

The Tzeentchian special character known as The Changeling, received a model this past summer.  The model pictured above, was my own take on the daemon from before that 2nd wave release.

Vraksian Baneblade

The Baneblade super-heavy tank is often the centerpiece of a proper Imperial Guard collection.  In building my own Baneblade, I wanted to make sure the large-sized model had an appropriate amount of detail to serve as a true “keystone”.

Vraksian Ruff Rydas

While inspired more by the forces of Chaos than the rhymes of DMX, these models are indeed ridin dirty.

DIY: Burning Chariot of Tzeentch

The Chaos Daemons codex certainly does include a great number of HQ units that do not have models to represent them on the battlefield.  Once more into the breach!

Der Kommissar

We all know about this commissar.  What I wanted to do, was to make one that looked kinda cool while he shot his own troops.  And with smaller shoulder pads.

A Recent Acquisition

An object of art?  A conversation piece?  Or could this be a suitable stand-in for a bio-titan?

I didn't know Guardsman Marbo was on Vraks...

It is true that Marbo has as much chance of dropping his demo charge on himself, as he does of tossing it into a crowd of Long Fangs.  That said, I thought it might a fun gamble!

Beasts of Nurgle? Really?

The oft-maligned Beast of Nurgle, is a situational specialty unit, with an unfortunate model.  I think you would agree that the Forgeworld Renegade Ogryn models serve as suitable proxies.

Who are you calling Ratling?

The Ratling Snipers I converted for my Vraksian Militia required a bit more dark flavor than just waist-high cooks with hirsute feet...

Renegade Ogryn Transport Pictorial

As promised last week, here are a variety of angles and views of my converted Renegade Ogryn Transport.

When life gives you lemons, make a Herald of Khorne riding a chariot.

The Chaos Daemons codex contains many headquarters choices that do not yet have a model.  Thanks to eBay and some putty, a solution is never far-off!

An Apocalyptic Black Friday

I finally got to take my Reaver Titan into a game!  Today some friends and I got an Apocalypse game in at my local gaming store, Mighty Titans.  Did I mention that melta-cannons fire a ten inch template?

Renegade Ogryn Transport

How six Ogryn will fit in a standard Chimera is anyone's guess.  I wanted my own transport to have a little extra leg room...

The Blue Scribes, and Why You Should Study the Product Range

As I worked towards completing my Chaos Daemons army, I began to run into the problem of having to create models that do not exist.  I knew this was going to take quite a bit of putty, pinning, paint and bits orders.

My Pal Ku'Gath: Painting a Forge World Nurgle Daemon Prince

"The Man" would have you believe that all of Nurgle's followers are green or brown.  As you can see, my own avatars of un-death are typically of a more crimson hue.  Recipe incoming!

Quick and Easy Vraksian Psyker Battle Squad

I wanted at least one Psyker Battle squad in my Vraksian IG collection, and had one obvious conversion idea.  While still a work in painting-progress, today I thought I would share my current desktop project with you.

Today's Special: Forge World Renegade Ogryn

Everyone knows that Ogryn are not a competitive unit choice.  It's really too bad, because the Forgeworld Renegade Ogryn models are fantastic!

The Low Price of High Armor

Is converting a model actually any more expensive than "stock" modeling?  Often times, people that are viewing my work comment on the price of having so many varied bits in my conversions.  Let's find out how much that Leman Russ really costs!

One Huge Thank You

I have many, MANY people to thank.  I started this blog a few short weeks ago, and I have recieved support from some truly wonderful people.  I hope that this picture of a cute kitty can placate the needs of my readers, while I spend my Wednesday post saying Thank You!

From my head, to the gaming table: A Copycat's Struggle.

With a product line as vast as Games Workshop's, it is easy to find inspiration.  But then how do we move forward when our inspirations lie elsewhere?  A few words on the unforeseen pitfalls of "borrowed" iconography to follow...

A Khorne Daemon prince, or, How to Plunder Your Failed Army Collections

We all have a "box of shame", filled with miniatures long since abandoned.  Projects that never got past the 30th page of a codex, or a half-painted HQ choice.  Is there no salvation?  Is there balm in Gilead?

Does Rotting Flesh tan, or just burn?

When finally painting the infantry models in my Vraksian Renegade Militia, I encountered a serious issue.  How was I going to paint gas masks, without turning the infantry into a bland mess?  Color recipes incoming!

Hello Nurse!

Damon Princesses with bandaged faces and razorblades?  Luckily we have the Inquisitor range!

Creatinge a Narrative Conversion

When I was building my Daemon army, I naturally wanted three Soul Grinders.  Permanently inclined to do everything in the most difficult way possible, the GW models did not appeal to me.  I had to devise my own representations.  Could I make a daemonic machine that did not just look like a pile of skulls and putty, but almost appeared to have a purpose?  Can a model tell a story?

That's no Forge World. That's New Jersey!

Honestly, are you surprised that "The Garden State" has secretly harbored an Imperial Manufactorum for the last two decades?  I thought you would appreciate some armor paint recipes...

Skarbrand, the Exiled One

A Bloodthirster so angry, he gives both armies preferred enemy.  I think the original Bloodthirster model may have something to do with his rage...  I hope I did him justice!

...to take arms against a sea of troubles...

Just back from registering at the Warstore Weekend.  This weekend threatens to be packed with dice, handshakes, and chicken strips.  In that order.

Here Be Daemons

Tonight, I had a portion of my 10k point Daemon army photographed by my friend Chris Scrivens.  He has done a spectacular job, as always.  I hope you guys enjoy more than just guard, because I have a ton of work to share.

Dear Nyhil: Why are my windows so foggy?

Hey all.  Tonight I thought I would post about a topic dear to my heart:  Windows without fog.  I built two Vendettas in the last few months, and the canopy pieces were the first clear plastic components that I have worked with in years.  Not since I left my smudgy fingerprints on the canopy of an Apache helicopter, have I felt the rage and disappointment connected to the modeling hazards of clear plastic.  Looking at my two new Vendettas, I could already taste Testor's glue for plastic.  And fear.

Addicted to Fluff

I recently created an army book to go along with my collection of renegade imperial guard.  The cover photo above was taken by my girlfriend with a basic digital camera, in our dining room.  No, not as professional as the high res shoot my friend did, but it made for a pretty cinematic cover.  Back to the book:  Tonight I thought I would post the fluff piece I wrote for the army book.  The more you know about the Siege of Vraks books, the more the details will make sense; but I would like to hear your opinions either way.  Please go easy on me, I don't write too frequently.

Warhammer Fantasy DOES Have Something to Offer!

I kid, I kid...  I love both the minis and game from the Warhammer Fantasy range.  Next week I will post some pics of my Daemons to prove it.  Till then... heavy artillery!

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Chimera

Ah, the Honda Civic of the Warhammer 40k world:  The Chimera.  Love them or hate them, these guys seem to be on grimdark tabletops as frequently as dice.  When it came time for me to develop my renegade IG army, I knew that Chimeras were going to be a necessary evil.  The least I could do, was put in a little love to keep the spam to at least an aesthetically pleasing level...

Random Act of Kindness

Today I was the recipient of a very friendly gesture.  A gamer at my FLGS, Mighty Titans in Denville, NJ, offered to photograph my latest project.  I have been lacking in high-res pics of my collection of Vraksian Renegades, so I jumped at the chance.  I hope you enjoy these, and there are many more to come in the future:

Who am I?

"Best Appearance", Battle for Salvation Grand Tournament - 2010,
"Best Appearance", Warstore Weekend Grand Tournament - 2010
"Player's Choice", Warstore Weekend Grand Tournament - 2010

So it has come to this.  No longer satisfied with terrorizing the unwashed masses who dare enter my dining room and gaze upon my display case, I have decided to traumatize the denizens of the interwebs.  I suppose it was inevitable.
